Generating a profit/surplus is generally considered to be good practice for all charities.
It’s important for the financial viability and sustainability of the organisation. In a not-for-profit, any surplus made is put back into the organisation to help achieve its aims and further its mission, rather than being distributed to its members or shareholders (as is the case in a for-profit organisation).
Like many charities today Orange Sky refers to itself as a Profit for Purpose organisation. Any reserves that Orange Sky accumulates will contribute to fulfilling their mission of Positively Connecting Communities.
