How To Unblock Waste Hose Reel
Summary
The waste hose reel can become blocked at the inlet elbow causing premature wear of the waste pump and potentially even failure. The elbow can be cleared by back-flushing the waste reel after removing the inlet hose, or by removing the elbow completely and using a screwdriver or similar to dislodge any foreign articles before reassembly.
1. Ensure waste tank is empty prior to conducting work.
2. Loosen the hose clamp on the hose and carefully remove the hose from the brass fitting.
3. Inspect inside the elbow for any foreign articles, and break up with a screwdriver if necessary.
4. Direct the elbow such that its pointing out the door of the van.
5. Using a garden hose with mains water supply, unreel the waste hose and flush water backwards through the end of the waste hose such that it will exit at the elbow and dislodge any build-up.
6. If the build-up cannot be removed, unscrew the elbow from the reel using a shifting spanner. The reel will need be held firmly whilst loosening off the elbow assembly.
7. Once complete, reassembly is the opposite of removal. Please ensure everything is tight and leak-free.
