Role Purpose & How You Help 

As a General Volunteer, the purpose of your role is to engage with all people visiting your Orange Sky shift and assist with operating the washing machines and dryers.

Supervision & Reporting

You will develop working relationships with friends who are experiencing homelessness, your fellow volunteers, and the laundromat owner(s). You will report to your Team Leader(s). Your Team Leader(s) will be your first point of contact and will help to ensure your shift goes out every week.

Key Responsibilities

As a General Volunteer, you are responsible for helping ensure that our friends using our service have an awesome experience every week. Some of the key responsibilities are;

  • Helping friends to access free laundry from the washing machines and dryers on shift - this may include helping friends to load/unload their washing if necessary
  • Operating laundromat washing machines, dryers, and payment systems within the shift times
  • Cleaning the laundromat operating space used during shift as per our safe working procedure(s)
  • Engage in positive and genuine conversations with all friends, volunteers, and service partners and members of the public
  • Abide by all policies and procedures in the Orange Sky Family Handbook while representing Orange Sky on shift, at events, online or at any other time
  • Report all incidents that occur and respond to any follow-up communications or debriefing processes
  • Help ensure Shift/Activity reports are submitted at the end of your shift
  • Respond to all communication with other members of the Orange Sky Family in a timely manner via phone, WhatsApp, email, or in person
  • Help to train new volunteers on how to correctly operate the washing machines and dryers and other equipment on shift
  • Actively engage and utilise Orange Sky's technical resources such as Volaby the online volunteer management system for managing rosters and submitted Shift/Activity reports and Incident reports
  • Keep your availability updated in Volaby
  • Notify your Team Leader in a timely and appropriate manner if you cannot attend a shift where you are rostered
  • At all times embrace & promote Orange Sky’s culture of ensuring safe and supportive service environments

How we help you

We will provide an onboarding & training program to ensure the volunteer is able to successfully fulfil the role. This will be available as an online training module(s) as part of our online volunteer management system.

Hours

1 x 2-4 hour shift a week/fortnight (not including travel time). Flexible volunteering options may be available.

Skills Required: 

  • Demonstrate the characteristics of an Orange Sky Person
  • Physical ability to operate equipment such as washing machines and dryers and complete cleaning and set up tasks
  • Willingness to engage in genuine non-judgemental conversation
  • Confidence in learning new technologies or platforms (training and resources will be provided) or willingness to give it a crack
  • Willing to give things a crack
