Replacing a TVMS Fuse

Article Summary

Sometimes before or during a shift, a fuse in the vehicle’s electrical distribution (TVMS) box will blow. This is by design- fuses are meant to break an electrical circuit if the current flowing through it is too high. This prevents damage to any of the dryers, pumps, or heaters in the vehicle.

If there is something not functioning properly in the vehicle- for example, a pump or dryer isn’t turning on- or there is a blown fuse notification on the screen, there is a strong chance this is the reason why.

Know what you're looking for and where? Head to the Quick Guide for simple instruction in how to safely remove a fuse.

What does a blown fuse look like?

The fuse on the left in the image below is a functioning fuse. The center and right side fuses both show signs of damage, and are blown. A blown fuse needs to be replaced.

How do I know which fuse is blown in the vehicle?

When a fuse blows in the distribution box, a warning will appear on the vehicle's screen to indicate a fuse has been blown. See Vehicle Faults for more information on finding this warning from the screen.

There will also be a white light above the blown fuse on the distribution box to indicate which fuse in the box has been blown, and needs to be replaced.

In shower and hybrid vans, there are inline fuses outside of the distribution box for the pumps which can also blow. Refer to Replacing Hybrid Van Pump Fuses for more information.

Where can I find the distribution box in the vehicle?

The electrical distribution box contains the electrical fuses for all of the 12V devices, shown below. The location of this box changes from vehicle to vehicle.

RV2.9 Distribution Box Location

The distribution box in a RV2.9 is found inside the metal battery box at the back of the vehicle. Open the battery box lid. You can see the distribution box behind the batteries.

Below you can see a table which details what fuses are which in vehicles which are not yet labelled.

RV3.0 Distribution Box Location

The distribution box for the RV3.0 is mounted to the back of the battery box. Open the battery box; you can see the distribution box above the batteries.

LV1.9 Distribution Box Location

The distribution box is behind the driver's seat. To access the distribution box, fold the driver's seat down.

HV1.9 Distribution Box Location

For a HV1.9, the location of the distribution box is behind the driver seat. Move seat forward to access.

Most upgraded HV vans now have there dryer fuses located next to the TVMS, with just a few still in the TVMS while the van awaits its retro fit.

Converted HV's - Fuse Box Location

Monty & Dan

Monty & Dan have the fuse box at the back of the vehicle. You can access the electronics by first opening the shower door, and then opening the left rear door by using the handle. The handle is located at the bottom of the left door (image below).

The fuse box is mounted vertically. If there is no white light above the fuses in the distribution box, the shower van also has two inline pump fuses which may have blown. See Replacing Shower Van Pump Fuses.

Laurie & Poppy

Laurie & Poppy have the fuse box at the back of the vehicle. You can access the electronics by first opening the shower door, and then opening the left rear door by using the handle. The handle is located at the bottom of the left door (image below).

The fuses for the shower clean & waste water pumps and washing machine clean & waste water pumps are located outside of the main fuse box. It is a small fuse box located next to all other electrical components at the back of the vehicle (near the main fuse box). See the image below.

If there is no white light above the fuses in the distribution box, the shower van also has two inline pump fuses which may have blown. See Replacing Shower Van Pump Fuses.

How to replace a fuse?

Spare fuses are stored below the inline fuses inside the distribution box, as shown below.

  1. First, turn the vehicle's system off at the screen completely, including vehicle lights (See Turning System Off).
  2. Once this is done, remove the plastic cover from the fuse box. There should be up to 10 fuses inside.
  3. Remove one of the spare fuses perpendicular to the inline fuses (depending on what fuse rating/colour you need- see section below).
  4. Then, replace the blown fuse with the spare fuse.

Fuse Colours

Fuse ratings are colour coded. There are two fuses used in the distribution box- a red 10A fuse, and a yellow 20A fuse. When you replace the blown fuse, ensure that you are replacing a fuse with one of the same colour.

Next Steps

After the fuse has been replaced, replace the plastic lid on the distribution box, and turn the system back on. Does everything function normally?
If something is still going wrong with the vehicle, submit an incident report.

Make sure to source a replacement spare fuse for the vehicle after the shift is done. The blown fuse can be discarded.
