Article Summary

Summary

If a washing machine appears to be running slowly please submit and incident report and follow these steps to confirm, and resolve the issue:

CONFIRM THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE

STEP 1. Run an empty load and time the washing machine cycle using your phone or stopwatch to confirm that the washing machine is in fact running slowly. The washing timers are 'estimates' rather than 'timers' and it is normal for wash times to freeze and jump around as the washer adjusts its cycle to certain factors such as load size, weight, and density.

Note: Orange Sky washing machines are set to operate on 30 minute cycles, however it is normal for cycles to take up to 38 minutes when washing heavy items such as bedding and towels.

Note: If 1 washer is slow, it is likely that the issue relates to the washer. If both washers are slow, the issue most likely relates to the systems and infrastructure.

TROUBLESHOOT THE ISSUE

Slow wash times are caused by a variety of issues relating to the supply and discharge of clean and waste water. Use this guide to confirm the circumstances leading to the issue:

  • Was it multiple loads (consecutive versus sporadic) or just once off?
  • Both washers or only one?
  • Does water supply from hose versus tank have same outcome? - troubleshoot affected method further if only one.
  • Were washers overloaded or underloaded? (1/2 is sweet spot)
  • Kinked washing machine drain hose
  • Is the van parked on an incline?
  • Was previous load a kill cycle? - could be emptying water in drum before starting cycle
  • Check if waste tank is full - could be preventing machines from emptying properly and preventing load from progressing
  • Check if washing machine waste filter is clogged - can be cleaned by GV
  • Could be a faulty washing machine drain pump - would require RJ tech to diagnose

Possible Causes/Hypothesis

  • Faulty clean water pump
  • Insufficient mains water supply
  • Kinked washing machine water supply hose
  • Clogged washing machine waste filter
  • Kinked washing machine drain hose
  • Full waste water tank
  • Faulty washing machine drain pump

Recommendation

If above doesn't yield a valid hypothesis/outcome, Orange Sky staff can engage a technician and supply all relevant context from above to support their investigation * * *
