Article Summary

Smoking from Waru Dryers

It is important to note that when the dryers enter cool down mode, if a cycle is restarted before cool down mode is finished, the diesel heaters will produce excess 'smoke' that has a diesel smell and may linger for up to five minutes. This smoke is similar to diesel car exhaust and does not signify fire or further danger necessarily. However, it may cause concern or distress to people close to the van while this is happening.

The best way to avoid any excess smoke coming from Waru Dryers is to not restart dryers while they are in cool down mode (fading red LED). This occurs 30 minutes after the dyer hasn't been in use. However, if it does happen, we recommend leaving the dryers running but move people away from the van until the smoke disipates.

Also, on very cold days, or days where there has been recent rainfall and the underside of the van is likely to be wet, when the dryers are first started they will produce a moderate amount of smoke-like steam. This is caused by the heaters’ burning off the moisture in the channels the exhaust follows. Though this is safe and completely normal, it can be alarming the first time you see it. The best thing to do is keep running the dryers at full capacity.
