Summary

The following guide can be used to troubleshoot problems with the Waru Dryer.

Causes

There are a few scenarios to consider, ensure you refer to the correct one.

ScenarioNext steps
The dryer is powered on, the drum is spinning but the clothes are coming out wet

CHECK - If the LED light next to the START button is flashing while the drum is spinning, refer to Heater Problems section below

CHECK - if the LED light is not illuminated, check that the vehicles system is switched on correctly and there is 12V power available. If everything is deemed okay, check that all electrical connections for the dryer are okay, otherwise lodge an incident report

The dryer is powered on but the drum is not spinning

TECHNICIAN REQUIRED - There is likely a sensor that has been triggered inside the dryer which is causing this problem. A Richard Jay technician or electrician will be required to investigate further.

Refer to the vehicle manual or Turning Battery-Powered Vehicles On & Off for power related issues

Heater Problems

A flashing red LED light on the bottom right of the dryer control panel indicates a fault with the heater. In most cases the fault will be related to a lack of fuel in the tank, please check that there is sufficient fuel in the vehicle or asset before proceeding. If the light is flashing more than once, please see the error codes table for next steps.

The heater status light is on the bottom right hand corner of the control panelError Codes

Always take note of how many times the light flashes during a fault. The red LED light will flash one or more times, then stop flashing for approximately 4 seconds, then start flashing again. The number of flashes corresponds to a particular error event as listed in the table below.

Note: Always count the number of flashes several times to ensure the code is determined accurately.

Description

Next steps

1

Fuel

Insufficient fuel

Fill diesel tank and/or check to see if fuel pump is working. Indicated by it making a ticking noise. This can be access through the hose hatches at the back of the dryer.
Then complete the reset procedure (below) until the heater starts

2

Fuel/pump

Insufficient fuel, fuel pump fault

Check diesel tank level is sufficient, then complete the reset procedure. If the LED light continues to flash, lodge an incident report

3

Electrical

Low voltage cut-off

Check that the system battery is sufficiently charged, then complete the reset procedure.

4

Overheating

Ambient temperature too high

Open the door, switch the dryer power off, wait several minutes to allow the unit to cool down, then switch back on.

5

Overheat Protection

Overheat protection switch has been activated by the dryer

Switch off the dryer and lodge an incident report - the dryer will require inspection by a technician familiar with the Waru Dryer design

6

Control

Replace controller

Lodge an incident report - contact the supplier for more information

7

Electrical

Check fuel pump lead connection

Lodge an incident report - there is potentially a faulty fuel pump or loose electrical connection. Speak with the supplier for more info.

8

Fan

Faulty or damaged heater fan

Lodge an incident report - there is potentially a faulty fan motor or a loose electrical connection. Speak with the supplier for more info.

9

Glow plug

Faulty glow plug

Lodge an incident report - the glow plug requires replacement - refer to Replacing the glow plug in a Waru Dryer

10

Overheating/Other

Issue unknown

Open the door and perform the reset procedure.

11

Sensor

Replace overheating sensor

Lodge an incident report - speak with the supplier about this issue

12

Control

Control switch failure

Perform the reset procedure below. If the LED continues to flash with the same number of flashes, lodge an incident report

13

Combustion

Maintenance required

Major maintenance required - speak with the supplier for servicing

Reset Procedure

1. Locate the TVMS (Fuse Box) and identify the relevant dryer's fuse (each fuse should be labelled). [Information on where the TVMS can be found and how to change a fuse: here - Please note that Hybrid fuses are located in an alternative location - see below.
ie. If Dryer 2 is faulting identify which fuse is for Dryer 2. On some occasions it may be one fuse for both dryers.

2. While the Redarc System is still on (ie. Systems button on control panel is green) - remove the fuse from the TVMS for at least 10 seconds, and then re-install.
2a. If you can’t access the TVMS, switch the system power off (although note that this will switch the entire system off).

3. Once completed, start a new drying cycle, now check that the red LED light is on and solid (i.e. not flashing)

4. Watch the system for at least 10 minutes and check whether the LED has begun flashing again.

  • If the LED light is solid, check that the inside of the drum is hot as expected.
  • If the LED is flashing again, log how many times the light is flashing and check the error code table.
  • If the problem cannot be rectified, submit an incident report

5. Complete steps 1-4 several times for fuel related issues if the error does not clear, otherwise stop and submit an incident report.

Dryer fuses in Laundry Vans

Dryer fuses in upgraded laundry vans are found in the TVMS, which is located behind the drivers seat on the internal drivers side wall of the van.
This can be a little trickyto access and we recommend removing the drivers headrest, sliding the seat all the way forward and then reclining the chair all the way back for maximum access.

Dryer fuses in Hybrid Vans

With the exception of Laurie, the dryer fuses in an upgraded hybrid van (HV) live outside the TVMS. As per the image below, the dyer fuses in a HV are located behind front seats, between the driver and passenger seats.

In the image below, the water heater 2 is in reference to Betsy as it is the only HV with two water heaters.
