Article Summary

Remote, hybrid and shower vans all use a Webasto water heater. This provides hot water for clothing washes and showers.

There is a small orange LED light installed in vehicles with water heaters. This light is used to indicate the status of the water heater. If the light is ON and CONSTANT, the water heater is functioning normally. A FLASHING light means there is something wrong with the water heater.

Heater LED Location

The LED location varies from van to van:

SHOWER VAN: Open left rear door of van and look up to the left. The water heater LED should be mounted in the upper left hand corner.

HYBRID VAN: Open left rear door of van. The water heater LED should be right in front of you.

REMOTE VAN: Go to the van display screen. The water heater LED should be directly above the screen and labelled.

Error Codes

If the water heater LED light is flashing, the sequence can be read by counting the number of LONG pulses. These long pulses are separated by 5 short pulses.

Example:

- = short pulse

_ = long pulse

----- _ _ _ ----- _ _ _ ----- = Error code 3

----- _ _ _ _ _ ----- _ _ _ _ _ ----- _ _ _ _ _ = Error code 5

A list of possible error codes with their meaning is taken from the water heater's manual, shown below. However, many of the possible errors can be fixed just by resetting the water heater system.

Resetting the Water Heater

Battery-Powered vehicles:  There are 2 different ways to reset a water heater. Review the best way before proceeding.

Please note - you can only do this when the the water heater light is flashing.

OPTION 1 (Note: Best if washers/dryers are NOT actively completing a cycle)

  1. Ensure the vehicle system is turned OFF. The lights in the vehicle should be off, in addition to the washers and dryers. (Please make sure the vehicle is not plugged into mains)
  2. Locate the fuse box in your vehicle (See article - scroll to 'Where can I find the Distribution Box?).
  3. Each of the fuses should be labelled; Remove the 'Water Heater' Fuse - this can be most likely found in F8 (This should be a 20A Yellow Fuse)
  4. Wait for 30 seconds.
  5. Reinsert the fuse. There is no need to replace the fuse, just return the old one back to its place.
  6. Wait for 30 seconds.
  7. Now, turn the entire vehicle system ON at the control panel.
  8. Wait for five minutes to allow the water heater to warm up. Run the shower or start a hot wash. Has the water heater LED light stopped flashing?

OPTION 2 (Note: Best if washers/dryers ARE actively completing a cycle)

  1. Ensure the vehicle system is turned ON. The lights in the vehicle should be on as well as the washers and dryers.
  2. Locate the fuse box in your vehicle (See article - scroll to 'Where can I find the Distribution Box?).
  3. Each of the fuses should be labelled; Remove fuse labelled 'WH Switch' - this can be most likely found by locating F4 (This should be a 10A Red Fuse)
  4. Wait for 30 seconds.
  5. Remove the 'Water Heater' Fuse - this can be most likely found in F8 (This should be a 20A Yellow Fuse) - There is no need to replace the fuse, just return the old one back to its place.
  6. Wait for 30 seconds.
  7. Re-insert the 'Water Heater' Fuse (Yellow) back into the same position (F8).
  8. Wait for 30 seconds.
  9. Re-insert the 'WH Switch' Fuse (Red) back into the same position (F4).
  10. Wait for five minutes to allow the water heater to warm up. Run the shower or start a hot wash. Has the water heater LED light stopped flashing?
