Can I use gloves to handle clothes/washing?
Gloves should be used by all volunteers when handling unwashed but also washed and not yet dry laundry on shift.
We would never force anyone to handle clothing they are not comfortable coming into contact with. On shift, staff and volunteers should encourage friends to load their own clothes in and out of the washing machines. If a friend requires assistance during this process, volunteers are required to wear disposable impermeable gloves which are supplied in all vans.
After wearing gloves please also clean your hands with hand sanitiser which is also supplied in all our vans.
If gloves or hand sanitiser are running low, please make a note on the shift report. Your Service Leader or Vehicle Leader can then top them up before the next shift.
