Article summary

If at any point you feel threatened by a friend on shift, if safe to do so immediately identify this friend with your team and assess the risk as a group. (For tips on alerting your team using the safe word, see Safe Words & Safe Places.

If the team feels comfortable doing so, talk with the friend about their behaviour stating their behaviour is making people feel uncomfortable and unsafe and if this continues we will be forced to pack the service up and leave the site.

If the team does not feel comfortable approaching the friend stop the service, and go to the most relevant safe place. Discuss as a team how you want to progress, and call Service Support for further advice. If necessary pack the service up and drive back to base.

It is important that everyone on shift feels safe. If even one volunteer does not feel comfortable to continue on shift pack up and return to base early. When safe to do so complete an incident report with as much detail as possible so the location can be assessed prior to the next scheduled shift.
