Charge the Vehicle

SAFETY CALLOUT

Consider the below callouts when guiding a volunteer through the instructions

Turn off the electrical system before plugging in/removing the power cord. Plugging in/removing the power cord while the electrical system is in use can damage or destroy the changeover contactor.

Must only turn on the engine to power the electrical system if outside and in a well ventilated environment. Advise people to move away from the vehicle when the engine is on.

There are 3 methods of charging the electrical system

Each method has different requirements (listed below). Please work down the list from most to least effective.


Method 1 - Via power cord

Method 2 - Via vehicle’s engine

Method 3 - Via solar panels

Determine battery battery level and active power sources

To determine the battery level for the electrical system and what power sources are active, refer to the display icons. 

VOLUNTEER CHECK-IN

Prior to completing work, please ensure the person(s) completing work feel comfortable and safe to commence work. 

INSTRUCTIONS

Method 1 - Via power cord

May require:

  • Electrical system to be momentarily switched off 
  • Access to a 240V power source within the length of the vehicle’s power cord

Turn off the electrical system using the display’s power button

Locate the power cord & plug into the vehicle 

Note*: Vans can be left unattended while charging at van base between shifts (e.g. overnight).

Plug the other end of the cord into the power outlet 


Method 2 - Via vehicle engine

May require:

  • Open/ventilated environment as vehicle will be exhausting fumes

May require:

  • Unobstructed access to sunlight over all panels

Park the vehicle in direct sunlight with no obstruction/shade on the solar panels
